About Us
The Animal Cell Culture Facility (CCF) serves as a resource and training center for the facilitation and use of animal cell cultures as a research tool. The CCF staff has expertise in all phases of animal cell culture manipulation encompassing mammalian, avian, fish and insect cells.
Services and Instrumentation
Services include:
- Preparation of primary cultures of animal origin
- Maintenance of established cell lines of mammalian, avian, fish and insect origin in either monolayer or suspension culture
- Preparation and maintenance of cell cultures for long-term storage in liquid nitrogen
- Preparation and testing of sterile cell culture media, sera, and specialized cell culture reagents
- Cell cloning
- Maintenance of hybridomas for monoclonal antibody production
- Assistance with DNA transfection procedures
- Mycoplasma testing
The Facility supplies small quantities of tissue culture grade plasticware for pilot experiments or emergency use. A Nikon Fluorescent Microscope equipped with 35mm camera, incubator housing and fluorescence capability suitable for viewing Hoechst, rhodamine and fluorescein staining are available.
Common Reagents
- Media: DME, MEM, RPMI
- PBS
- HEPES
- Trypsin/EDTA
- Penicillin/Streptomycin
- Calf Serum
- Fetal Bovine Serum
- Special Formulations Prepared Upon Request
All media & sera tested for sterility and cloning efficiency.
Training Education
Facility staff can provide instruction in basic aspects of animal cell culture and aseptic technique. Specialized training can be provided for techniques that cover the full range of in vitro cell culture, including:
- Cell preservation
- Mycoplasma detection
- Cell cloning
- Hybridoma production
- DNA transfection
- Toxicity testing
- Mass cell culture using microcarriers, suspension, roller or hollow fiber procedures
Training can be provided on an individualized basis or in a workshop format.
